What’s Stopping You?

What’s Stopping You?

(read this post in 54 seconds)

If you’re not where you want to be – in your work, your relationships or other pursuits – have you taken a moment to ask why?

We all have ready-made rationales for accepting less or different than what we want. We’re convinced that these rationales are justified and largely unchangeable.

Sometimes it’s not the rationales holding us back. Rather, we’re unsettled by where we are but aren’t sure where we want to be. Or we know where we want to be but don’t know how to wrap our mind around how to get there.

Ask yourself these four questions:

  1. Am I where I want to be?
  2. Where do I want to be?
  3. What will it feel like to be where I want to be?
  4. What’s stopping me?
  5. How do I overcome what’s stopping me?

I won’t pretend that this is always an easy journey. More often than not, it’s challenging, as we contend with hopes, fears and expectations along with practical consideration likes money, time and relationships. It’s also a journey that is difficult to take alone. Don’t be afraid to get support.

The status quo is always there. But when it isn’t where or how we want to be, maintaining the status quo isn’t the path toward contentment. That path begins with the recognition that a new reality is a possibility and a choice.
